High School Computer Science Teacher

Job Summary
Deliver specific course content in an online environment by providing instruction, support, and guidance while managing the learning process and focusing on individual student needs. Monitor student progress through Stride K12's learning management system and actively collaborate with students, parents, and learning coaches to advance learning toward established goals. Differentiate instruction based on student mastery levels, prepare students for high-stakes standardized tests, and maintain grade books to ensure academic integrity while making placement and promotion decisions. This full-time virtual position requires 40+ hours per week, typically 9-5 or 8-4, with occasional travel for state testing and professional development. The Teacher must obtain a Tennessee Teaching License prior to employment and attend in-person PDs and school events. Volunteer State Virtual Academy aims to provide an exemplary, personalized educational experience through rigorous curriculum and data-driven instruction.
Required Qualifications
- Tennessee Certification Residency Requirements
- Tennessee Residents Preferred
- Will consider residents of the following states: Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, and Louisiana
- Must be able to obtain a Tennessee Teaching License prior to employment
- Must attend in person PDs, testing, and other school events
- Must be able to travel occasionally throughout the year to various school functions, such as state testing or as otherwise required by the school
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during workday
- Bachelor's degree
- Active state teaching license
- Ability to clear required background check
- Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers to interpret and produce numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data, and use it to drive instructional decisions
- Receptive to receiving coaching regularly with administrators and teacher trainers
- Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint
- Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms
- Ability to maintain teacher certification/professional development hours and fluency in K12 systems, programs and curriculum

- Experience working with proposed age group
- Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology
- Experience teaching in an online (virtual) and/or in a brick-and-mortar environment
- Experience with online learning platforms
