Job Summary
High School Science teachers will instruct a curriculum spanning biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental sciences, with an emphasis on inquiry-based learning, student discourse, and lab/project-based tasks. Responsibilities include facilitating student-led discourse supported by evidence, differentiating instruction to meet diverse learners, analyzing student data with leadership to set goals, collaborating with the science department and families, and participating in weekly meetings, coaching, and professional development to strengthen science education and college-readiness for urban high school students. Prior experience (1–2 years preferred) and NY state certification eligibility are required to meet employment standards; a bachelor’s degree is required, with enrollment in a teacher-preparation program and eventual certification in New York. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Certification is not required to be hired at Uncommon, but must meet NY state certification eligibility requirements
- Enroll in a teacher preparation program and maintain a GPA of 2.75 or higher during employment if not have a degree in education
- Teachers are required to become certified in the state of New York within a reasonable period after beginning employment
