Job Summary
High School Science teachers work across the network to prepare students with tools to engage in scientific inquiry and to develop self-directed learners. Responsibilities include teaching a curriculum spanning Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental Sciences with emphasis on inquiry-based learning, student discourse, and lab/project-based performance tasks; developing evidence-based argumentation and data analysis skills; differentiating instruction to meet diverse learners; meeting weekly with principal/coach to analyze student work trends; collaborating with the Science department to set goals; building positive relationships with students and families; participating in weekly school-wide meetings and ongoing professional development; and contributing to a culture that supports equity and excellence in STEM education. Qualifications include demonstrated commitment to students’ social-emotional and academic development, enthusiasm for collaboration, and a self-directed approach to feedback and improvement. A bachelor’s degree is required, NY state certification eligibility is needed (teacher preparation program and GPA minimum), and certification in NY within a reasonable period after start.
