Job Summary
Direct and manage the district’s instrumental music program, providing students opportunities to participate in extracurricular band activities while ensuring compliance with UIL, UIL policies, district requirements, and state guidelines. Plan activities to achieve district, region, and state recognition; supervise the program’s staff and coordinate recruitment, auditions, and placement for all potential students; conduct rehearsals outside the academic day to prepare performances; participate in and manage participation in UIL/TMEA events and festivals; develop and monitor a budget and equipment inventory; oversee the Private Lesson Program and booster club activities; coordinate with campus and district leadership to schedule performances, contests, and public relations efforts to highlight student accomplishments; supervise, manage, and coordinate instruction for staff within the band program and ensure effective curriculum, instruction, and student achievement in a collaborative team environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate
- Masters degree preferred
- High School or Middle School experience preferred
- Knowledge of UIL and TMEA policies and procedures
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Skill in classroom management and student behavior
- Skill in effective communication
- Skill in modifying instruction for diverse learners
- Experience with computers and office software
- Experience in collaborative team-based environments
- Minimum of two years experience as a Head Band Director and/or three years as an Associate Band Director
