Job Summary
High School Assistant Coach for Girls Basketball; assist the Head Coach with daily practice execution, game-day logistics, and supervision of student-athletes in grades 9-12. Role emphasizes partnership with the Head Coach to reinforce a disciplined, inclusive team culture that prioritizes academic success, sportsmanship, and character development. Responsibilities include running high-quality practices focused on skill development and conditioning, implementing game plans, coordinating team transportation and logistics, ensuring athletes are cleared by the school nurse or athletic trainer, maintaining equipment and uniforms, assisting with fundraising, attending league meetings as designated, and representing the school professionally at events. Requires CPR/AED and First Aid certification, NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching, and ongoing NFHS training, along with DOE credentials (NJ Teaching Certification or NJ Substitute Credential) and successful background and medical clearances; schedules demand evenings and weekends for practices, travel, and games.
Required Qualifications
- CPR/AED and Basic First Aid Certification (hands-on assessment required; DOE-approved)
- NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching must be completed prior to first employment
- Annual NFHS Training Requirements including NFHS Concussion in Sports, NFHS Heat Illness Prevention, NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest
- One-Time NFHS Training Requirements including NFHS Implicit Bias, BeNice Program
- DOE Certification: NJ Teaching Certification or NJ Instructional Substitute Credential or equivalent
- Background Check submission
- Medical Fitness verification
- Mantoux Tuberculin Test per state requirements
- Flexible hours including evenings and weekends for practices, travel, and games
- Compliance with federal laws, NJ Department of Education guidelines, NJSIAA regulations, and iLearn policies
- Involvement in fundraising activities as directed
- Daily operation support: practices, games, tournaments, transportation logistics
- Athlete supervision and safety protocols during practices, games, travel, and events
- Academic monitoring support for student-athletes
- Positive, professional representation of the school at events
- Communication with Head Coach, athletic director, and parents as needed
