Job Summary

High Needs/Resource Special Ed Paraprofessional at Liberty Ridge Elementary School provides instructional and behavioral support to special education students under a licensed special education teacher. Responsibilities include consulting with the licensed teacher on daily duties, implementing district policies and procedures, assisting with reading, writing, and math, supporting students with learning or behavioral challenges, assisting with daily living activities as needed, using behavioral management techniques and documenting student data, and contributing to a positive learning environment. Requires assisting with data collection, maintaining confidentiality, coordinating with staff and families, and participating in training. Education requirement: high school diploma or equivalent with District 833 Highly Qualified requirements. Hours are 3 hours per day (9:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.). Starting pay is $22.25 per hour, with eligibility for an additional $0.50 per hour upon achieving Highly Qualified status. Position follows the school calendar with potential for additional paraprofessional roles in summer. Must be able to lift and transfer up to 50 pounds and demonstrate teamwork, confidentiality, and effective communication. Qualified candidates may have experience with behavioral management techniques, CPR/First Aid certification, and prior work with students with disabilities.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to meet District 833 Highly Qualified requirements
  • Competencies as required by State of Minnesota, Federal government, and/or District 833
  • Possess the skills and ability to reinforce math, reading, and writing skills in elementary and/or secondary classrooms
  • Ability to lift and transfer up to 50 pounds
  • Proven teamwork, confidentiality, and communication skills
  • Models appropriate behavior, neat appearance, and proper grammar usage for all students
  • Helps provide a positive learning environment
  • Self-directed and able to organize small group reading and math activities with resources and assessments provided
  • Ability to perform routine computer functions, including email, Internet navigation and Microsoft Word
  • Ability to pass Paraprofessional fitness for duty tests
  • Prompt, regular and reliable attendance
  • Actively participates in district-sponsored training when offered
  • Communicates with students, parents, co-workers, supervisors, and the community in a positive and responsive way that is consistently welcoming and enhances effective work relationships
