Job Summary

Be the Spark! Join the YMCA of Greater Toronto Health and Fitness team across multiple GTA locations as Karate Instructor, Red Cross Youth, Child and Youth Program Sports instructor, or Team Leader Teen Night. Responsibilities include delivering YMCA-approved program content, developing weekly lesson plans, assisting with gradings, coaching participants, communicating progress to parents and supervisors, maintaining attendance and progress records, ensuring equipment safety, and collaborating with program staff and volunteers to connect members with additional YMCA and community offerings. Qualifications include relevant certifications (First Aid/CPR), age eligibility for Canada Summer Jobs, and program-specific credentials. The role involves in-person instruction at YMCA locations in the Greater Toronto Area with a 37.5-hour weekly schedule across 8-10 weeks, starting June 29, 2026, and potential multiple vacancies. Required Qualifications

  • Be between 16 to 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • It is a funding requirement that candidates must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred
  • Karate Instructor Qualifications: Current Standard First Aid & CPR level C or Intermediate First Aid with CPR-C & AED is an asset; Minimum 1 year of active Karate training; Experience teaching Youth Leadership an asset
  • Instructor Red Cross Youth Qualifications: Current Red Cross Youth Leader Certification; Current Standard First Aid & CPR level C or Intermediate First Aid with CPR-C & AED an asset
  • Instructor Child and Youth Program Sports Qualifications: Diploma or degree in field related to working with children or youth or equivalent experience; Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid & CPR C; NCCP Basketball Coaching (Learn to Train); 1 year experience instructing children and teens in basketball
  • Team Leader Teen Night Qualifications: Post-secondary education in Recreation/Leisure or related field; YMCA Certification in Healthy Adolescent Development; 1-2 years’ experience in youth outreach/leadership; supervisory experience is an asset
  • General Qualifications: Interpersonal skills; excellent communication; flexibility in scheduling; commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging
  • Police and Vulnerable Police Checks required for employment

Additional Requirements

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada (citizen, permanent resident, or refugee protection under IRPA)
  • Availability for part-time, evenings and weekends as required by YMCA programs
