Job Summary
Herdsperson assists other Herd Technicians in routine animal care and general farm tasks to ensure animal welfare. Responsibilities include feeding, watering, vaccinating, and performing general animal husbandry; operating farm equipment (mowers, tractors, trucks, buses); assisting in moving animals and maintaining animal flows; sanitizing areas with high-pressure equipment; processing piglets (injections, castration, tail docking, ear notching); maintaining production information and department records; following SOPs, production manuals, and training guides; complying with animal welfare policies and biosecurity laws; providing care to health needs of animals, including medications and humane treatment; assisting with facility and equipment maintenance; performing additional duties as assigned. Qualifications include High School diploma or GED preferred, previous livestock handling helpful, ability to perform hard physical labor, strong teamwork, ability to follow instructions, and willingness to work an average 48-hour week including weekends, evenings, and holidays; on-call for emergencies.
