Job Summary
Herdsperson position at Smithfield Farm supporting Herd Technicians in routine animal care and general farm tasks. Responsibilities include feeding, watering, vaccinating, and general animal husbandry; maintaining farm sanitation; moving animals; operating equipment such as mowers, tractors, trucks, and other farm gear; processing piglets (injections, castration, docking tails, ear notching); maintaining records and following SOPs; and complying with animal welfare, safety, and biosecurity policies. May be in training for advanced Herd Technician designation; requires flexibility with plans and strong teamwork; weekend/evening/holiday work may be required; ability to handle physical labor and work in a fast-paced environment.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED preferred
- Previous livestock handling helpful
- Ability to do hard physical labor
- Strong commitment to teamwork
- Willingness to shower daily in and out of facility
- Ability to follow instructions and deal with standardized situations
- Must be able to work an average 48-hour work week; weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed
