Job Summary
Herdsperson assists other Herd Technicians in routine animal care and general farm tasks to ensure welfare of animals, including feeding, watering, vaccinating, and basic veterinary procedures. Responsibilities include sanitation, moving animals, operating farm equipment (mowers, tractors, trucks), processing piglets (injecting medications, castrating, docking tails, ear notching), maintaining production records, and adhering to animal welfare and safety policies. The role requires flexibility, teamwork, ability to work long hours including weekends/evenings/holidays, physical labor (lift up to 50 lbs), and ability to work in a fast-paced farm environment. Relocation package is available. Located in Waverly, VA. The role may involve on-site duties at designated farm site with compliance to environmental, safety, and biosecurity regulations. Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED preferred
- Previous livestock handling helpful
- Ability to do hard physical labor
- Strong commitment to teamwork
- Willingness to shower daily in and out of facility
- Ability to follow instructions and deal with standardized situations
- Must be able to work an average 48-hour work week
- Weekend, evening, and holiday work required
- Must be on call for emergency situations
