Job Summary
Perform routine and complex laboratory tests for physician diagnosis and treatment, operating automated analyzers and maintaining instruments per departmental SOPs. Execute daily quality control measurements, troubleshoot performance issues, and document corrective actions when results exceed tolerance limits. Train new technologists and students while participating in external proficiency testing and continuing education. Process specimens, manage computer operations for result entry and reporting, and ensure strict adherence to safety policies, confidentiality standards, and cost-effective supply usage. Maintain a clean work area and resolve day-to-day problems independently or with supervisor notification.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- 1 year job-related experience
- NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist License
- Must be able to perform laboratory tests alone or with minimum supervision
- Must be able to operate and maintain automated laboratory analyzers and other laboratory equipment
- Must possess sufficient academic, technical and clinical skills and knowledge to evaluate, troubleshoot, research and resolve day-to-day problems
- Must be able to perform or willing to learn laboratory computer operations
- Must follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures
- Must be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affects test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the Supervisor or director
- Must follow the Hospital and Laboratory policies for Safety which includes proper use of Personal Protective Equipment and Chemicals
- Must be able to perform preventive and corrective maintenance of equipment and instruments
- Must be able to perform or willing to learn laboratory computer operations, such as: log-in test requests, print daily logs, enter manual results, edit and post patient results, print reports, retrieve reports and other computer functions
- Must follow procedures for processing spacemen's for analysis
- Must be able to utilize independent judgment in performing routine and complex laboratory tests for physician's use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease states
Desired Qualifications
- 4-year college degree (Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology) from accredited institution
- 2 years experience in Laboratory field
