Job Summary
The Medical Laboratory Technician/Scientist (MLT/MLS) performs and monitors various medical laboratory analyses of patient specimens to provide accurate test results for confirming clinical diagnoses and treatment therapies. Responsibilities include processing specimens with proper patient identification and labeling, potential phlebotomy/venipuncture at specific hospital locations, assessing specimen acceptability through QC and visual checks, documenting unacceptable specimens, communicating requirements, entering and verifying results in the LIS, operating analytical equipment, maintaining and calibrating devices, troubleshooting malfunctions, documenting QC results per regulatory guidelines, participating in proficiency testing, maintaining clinical competency, and contributing to educational activities for other technicians and students as requested by leadership; ensures adherence to QC policies and regulatory standards and collaborates with team members and other departments to deliver quality laboratory service.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree required in related field of Science (MLT)
- Bachelor’s Degree required in related field of Science (MLS)
- Military Medical Laboratory specialist Training
- Less than 1 year prior training in a laboratory setting (student training accepted)
