Job Summary
Heavy Equipment Technician role in Strathcona County requires a Licensed Journeyperson Heavy Duty On-Road/Off-Road Mechanic with Red Seal asset, to maintain and repair a diverse fleet (buses, heavy equipment) in a municipal fleet facility. The position emphasizes independent work with minimal supervision within a collaborative team, guiding apprentices, completing accurate work orders, and ensuring fleet reliability, safety, and operational readiness. The role involves knowledge of diagnostic programs, experience with transit/coach buses, and a strong emphasis on safety, documentation, and compliance (CVIP, criminal record check). The posting notes a temporary full-time assignment up to 13 months with potential extension, and requires Alberta licensing, ability to work various shifts, and on-call rotation.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed Journeyperson Heavy Duty On-Road and Off-Road Mechanic/Heavy Equipment Technician
- Licensed Red Seal (asset)
- Experience on Transit and Coach buses preferred
- Basic computer experience
- Knowledge of equipment repair, preventative maintenance, and diagnostic programs
- Ability to train apprentices and work with a team
- Fleet Management Program experience
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and 5-year Driver’s Abstract with <7 demerits
- Ability to achieve Provincial CVIP status
- Ability to perform physical labour and stand/walk for extended periods
- Ability to work varied shifts and overtime
- On-call availability (1 week per rotation)
- Security/Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
- Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered
