Job Summary
Heavy Equipment Operator duties include safely operating a range of heavy equipment (bulldozers, graders, excavators, backhoes, loaders, wheel loaders, off-road dump trucks) to perform MSW and recyclable material processing, site prep, and related tasks. Responsibilities include pre-trip/post-trip inspections and routine maintenance, completing required documentation, operating equipment for site preparation, landscaping, snow removal, and on-site Roll Off work, moving and staging trailers with a yard tractor, and interacting professionally with customers. Must be proficient on heavy equipment, complete training on landfill equipment as needed, and obtain certification tests for each piece of equipment. For Boyd County, hazardous waste management training must be completed within six months, with annual refresher reviews. Must be able to travel between offices, work flexible hours including nights and weekends, and read/speak English. Qualified candidates must meet legal work requirements in the U.S. and have a valid driver’s license if applicable.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of three years experience operating heavy equipment such as an excavator, backhoe, dozer, and off-road truck or similar experience preferred
- Must pass a written and operational test to be certified to operate each piece of heavy equipment
- Specific to Boyd County - Must successfully complete hazardous waste management training within six months of employment or assignment to such job duties, along with an annual review of the initial training
- Legally eligible to work in the United States
- Valid driver’s license (if applicable)
- Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
- Must be able to read and speak the English language
