Job Summary
Operate heavy equipment including loaders, excavators, material handlers, and skid steers to move, load, unload trucks, trailers, containers, and rail cars safely. Sort, stack, and move scrap metal and raw materials throughout the yard or mill site while feeding processing equipment as directed. Perform daily pre-shift inspections, report defects promptly, and maintain production flow by following operating procedures. Assist with yard cleanup and collaborate with supervisors, mechanics, and other team members. Maintain situational awareness of pedestrians, truck traffic, and rail activity while adhering to all safety policies, PPE requirements, and site rules. Work in an industrial steel mill scrap yard environment with exposure to noise, weather, and dust.
Required Qualifications
- Previous heavy equipment operating experience
- Dependable attendance and punctuality
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, or rotating shifts as needed
- Ability to climb equipment ladders, sit for extended periods, and perform physical tasks as needed
Desired Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience in scrap recycling, steel mill, demolition, construction, or industrial settings
- Ability to operate multiple types of equipment
- Strong hand-eye coordination and awareness of surroundings
