Job Summary
Operate heavy equipment on bridge construction jobsites across Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri, including cutting, ditch digging, backfilling, and demolishing old structures. Inspect and maintain machinery to prevent malfunctions, perform minor repairs with hand tools, and read equipment manuals while adhering to OSHA regulations. Maneuver attachments using levers and pedals, follow grade stakes or hand signals, and communicate safety concerns to management. Work Monday through Friday with some weekends, typically 40-50 hours, with overnight stays sometimes required at the company's expense. Based in Red Oak, IA.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to travel from jobsite to jobsite in Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas or Missouri
- Must be available for work Monday to Friday, and some weekends, usually 40-50 hours
- Must be able to work overnight stays at the company's expense
- Must be able to attend work as scheduled
- Must be able to get along with others
- Must be able to follow company handbooks and other instructions
- Must be able to use and care for tools, equipment and materials
- Must be able to read and understand equipment manuals
- Must be able to operate the equipment skillfully and safely in conformance with OSHA regulations
- Must be able to cut, sidehill cut, ditch dig, slot doze, backfill, clear and grub and finish
- Must be able to demolish, clear and level jobsites of old bridges, buildings, trees, shrubs, earth, rocks, concrete, etc.
- Must be able to use hydraulic hoses, wedge-pin hitches and cable-operated blades
- Must be able to maneuver the machine by using levers and pedals to raise and lower or tilt the attachment
- Must be able to lower terrain by following grade stakes or hand signals
- Must be able to detect and adjust defects in equipment and perform minor repairs using grease gun, oil can and hand tools
- Must be able to work safely by using a bi-directional signal, headache rack/brush guard, seat belt and rollover protection
- Must be able to read and interpret Safety Data Sheets and container labels
- Must be able to identify and communicate safety concerns to management in a timely manner
- Must be able to operate other equipment and perform other duties as assigned
