Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Job Summary
Diagnose and repair mechanical problems on heavy equipment, compactors, excavators, and wheel loaders, covering engines, transmissions, chassis, and hydraulic systems. Perform preventative maintenance inspections and overhauls on gas or diesel engines while interpreting equipment condition reports and repair orders. Complete daily consumables reports for fuel and oil usage, document parts usage, and account for work order times. Collect and analyze data from oil sampling, on-board computers, and fleet management software. Follow all safety policies, OSHA regulations, and Lock Out Tag Out procedures. Maintain advanced knowledge in air brakes, tires, and electrical diagnostics as evidenced by ASE Certification.

- Advanced knowledge in tires
- Advanced knowledge in hydraulics
- Advanced knowledge in advanced electrical
- Advanced knowledge in advanced drive train
- Advanced knowledge in suspension
- Advanced knowledge in steering
- Advanced knowledge in wheel-end components
- Training as evidenced by ASE Certification
- At least 1 year of experience as a technician working on heavy equipment
- Minimum of 1 year of prior experience as a technician working on heavy equipment
- Demonstrating the ability to service increasingly more challenging maintenance repairs
- Mechanical Trade School certificate or degree
- Certificate in electrical diagnostics
- Applicable ASE certifications
- Working knowledge of Tier 4 emission systems
- Welding and/or fabrication skills and/or experience
- Knowledge and application of OSHA Haz Com
- Knowledge and application of OSHA Lock Out Tag Out
- Knowledge and application of all OSHA Fire Protection regulations
