Job Summary

Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems on heavy equipment including forklifts, cranes, and loaders. Perform detailed inspections, preventative maintenance, and welding repairs while completing work orders and maintenance records. Respond to emergency breakdowns in the field or yard with urgency and maintain a clean, organized work area. Communicate effectively with supervisors and operators regarding equipment status and adhere to all safety policies to ensure zero incidents. Assist in delivering training to co-workers and participate in special projects as assigned. This role requires on-site presence in North Charleston, SC, with willingness for after-hours call-outs and a significant personal investment in industry-standard tools.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3+ years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic or diesel technician, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining heavy equipment such as forklifts, manlifts, hostlers, reach stackers, front and side loaders, cranes, etc.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle record (MVR)
  • Mechanical aptitude with a strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems and the ability to effectively troubleshoot in these areas
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, electrical and hydraulic schematics, and diagnostic codes
  • Basic welding and fabrication skills
  • Willingness to work after hours call outs
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs. climb, bend, and work in the presence of loud machinery in various outdoor conditions and at elevated heights
  • Ability to understand and abide by all Company and Railroad safety policies
  • Ability to recognize all colors in a normal spectrum
  • A full complement of industry-standard tools
  • English proficiency

Desired Qualifications

  • Completion of a certified trade program or technical degree in heavy equipment, diesel, or automotive mechanics
  • Experience with fleet management systems or maintenance tracking software
  • OSHA 10/30 or other safety certifications
