Job Summary
Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on heavy industrial equipment including wheel loaders, dozers, excavators, cranes, and locomotives in active steel-mill environments. Inspect mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and powertrain systems to identify failures, then repair or replace engines, transmissions, braking systems, and components per OEM specifications. Document all maintenance activities and participate in safety meetings, job safety analyses, and continuous improvement initiatives. Work safely in high-temperature zones and outdoor conditions while complying with OSHA and site-specific regulations. Rotate shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum 3+ years of experience maintaining heavy equipment in an industrial, mining, steel‐mill, or construction environment
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Hands-on experience with Diesel and gasoline engines
- Hands-on experience with Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Hands-on experience with Electrical and electronic controls
- Hands-on experience with Drivetrains and braking systems
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast‐paced industrial environment
- Proven commitment to workplace safety and hazard awareness
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical documentation and OEM service procedures
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs with or without accommodation
- Tolerance for noise, dust, vibration, high heat, and industrial work conditions
- Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and work around moving equipment
Desired Qualifications
- Technical or vocational training
- Welding and fabrication experience
- Experience working within active steel‐mill operations
- Familiarity with slag handling, materials handling, or rail‐based industrial equipment
- Certifications in heavy equipment repair, hydraulics, or electrical systems
