Job Summary
Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on heavy industrial equipment including wheel loaders, dozers, excavators, cranes, and locomotives. Inspect mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and powertrain systems to identify failures, then repair or replace engines, transmissions, braking systems, and hydraulic components per OEM specifications. Conduct equipment inspections, document activities, and perform welding, cutting, and fabrication repairs as required. Work safely in active steel-mill operations under demanding conditions while complying with OSHA, MSHA, and site-specific safety regulations. Collaborate with operations teams to minimize downtime and participate in job safety analyses. Requires 3+ years of heavy equipment experience, ability to work rotating shifts, and physical stamina for outdoor environments with high heat and vibration.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum 3+ years of experience maintaining heavy equipment in an industrial, mining, steel‐mill, or construction environment
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Hands-on experience with Diesel and gasoline engines
- Hands-on experience with Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Hands-on experience with Electrical and electronic controls
- Hands-on experience with Drivetrains and braking systems
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast‐paced industrial environment
- Proven commitment to workplace safety and hazard awareness
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical documentation and OEM service procedures
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs with or without accommodation
- Tolerance for noise, dust, vibration, high heat, and industrial work conditions
- Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and work around moving equipment
Desired Qualifications
- Technical or vocational training
- Welding and fabrication experience
- Experience working within active steel‐mill operations
- Familiarity with slag handling, materials handling, or rail‐based industrial equipment
- Certifications in heavy equipment repair, hydraulics, or electrical systems
