Job Summary

Required Qualifications

• •Employee must have the visual ability to read, input data, distinguish between shades or color, observe and detect dangerous obstacles such as vehicles, equipment, and people.
• •Employee must have good hearing in order to detect dangerous obstacles, other vehicles or equipment, and people.
• •Employee must have finger dexterity to input data into various software systems.
• •Knowledge of diagnostic testing procedures and the use of computerized diagnostic equipment.
• •Knowledge of welding and fabrication techniques for repair of metal components and structural frames.
• •Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices and schedules for heavy-duty machinery.
• •Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions related to heavy equipment repair, including OSHA and MSHA requirements.
• •Knowledge of related technical manuals, schematics, and manufacturer specifications.
• •Knowledge of shop math and measurement tools used in mechanical work.
• •Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices for landfill, construction, and earthmoving machinery.
• •Advanced knowledge of the principles, methods, tools, and equipment used in the inspection, maintenance and repair of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, braking systems, and electrical systems for heavy equipment.
• •Must have good judgement, diplomacy and tact with the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations and customers remaining helpful and pleasant at all times.
• •Must have a professional appearance, positive demeanor, and treat others with dignity and respect,responding promptly to their needs.
• •Must be detailed oriented and have well-developed problem-solving abilities.
• •Must have the ability to prioritize work projects, and the ability to adapt due to changing conditions.
• •Must have clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interpret and relay such information.
• •Must have good inter-personal skills to be able to interact professionally and build good working relationships with others.
• •Must be proficient in the use of computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel and email.
• •Must have the ability to multi-task multiple projects or issues simultaneously and meet firm deadlines.
• •High school diploma or GED required; additional technical or vocational training in diesel or heavy equipment repair preferred.
• •Minimum of three (3) years' experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
• •Possession of a valid State of Georgia, Commercial Class A license, acceptable driving history, and the ability to drive a vehicle as needed.
• •The employee may be exposed to noise, machinery with moving parts, dust, dirt, grease and irritating chemicals; therefore, the use of provided protective devices such as hard hat, safety glasses, safety-toe boots, hearing protection, gloves, etc., is required.
• •The work is mostly performed by bending, crouching, stooping, standing and walking with frequent pushing, pulling, manipulating and lifting or carrying objects of up to 50 pounds unassisted.
• •Sitting and driving a vehicle in order to get to the proper location to fix equipment will be daily, often several times.
• •The work will frequently have constant vibration due to equipment that pushes, pulls, manipulates and carries extremely heavy loads.
• •The work will be performed in all forms of weather that may be very hot, cold, extreme or inclement.
• •Though infrequent, in the case of an extreme event or emergency maintenance, employee will be required to report back to work. This may be after regular working hours to include nights, weekends and holidays.
