Job Summary
Shop-based Heavy Duty Mechanic role performing repairs and maintenance on equipment such as trucks, cranes, hydraulic systems, and diesel engines in a non-unionized environment. Responsibilities include diagnosing problems, replacing/repairing parts, conducting PMs and safety inspections, interpreting OEM manuals, and using CMMS. Requires on-site work in Nanaimo, BC with daytime hours (7–8 AM start) and occasional on-call overtime, no weekend work. Preference given to candidates with Red Seal certification and experience in heavy-duty/mechanical trades. The role emphasizes collaboration with technicians, maintenance planning, and client interactions at the shop, with strong emphasis on safety, troubleshooting, and maintenance planning.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in a heavy-duty mechanic space
- Red Seal certification in Commercial Transport, Heavy Duty Mechanic, or Millwright (preferred)
- own tools
- excellent communication skills
- ability to work on-site
- welding and electrical knowledge considered a strong asset
- team-oriented and able to work independently
- ability to multitask and manage priorities
- on-call availability for emergencies
