Heavy Diesel Technician/Mechanic - Day shift

Job Summary
Conduct daily maintenance on industrial trucks, trailers, and machinery by diagnosing mechanical issues through sound analysis, dismantling devices to replace defective parts, and repairing electrical systems. Operate metalworking tools like drill presses and grinders to fabricate repairs, then test equipment functionality by driving repaired units. Complete job work orders in the Transman Fleet Equipment Maintenance System, recording materials used and maintenance codes while adhering to all safety policies and protective equipment requirements. Perform basic computer functions using Microsoft Windows and Excel to manage records and reports.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- one to three years related experience and/or training
- equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with co-workers, supervisors, and managers, to understand procedures and warning signs and or markings in the English language, to respond to inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to understand detailed written and oral instructions
- ability to prioritize and problem-solve in time/safety-sensitive situations
- ability to read and understand wire and hydraulic schematics
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions

- Must be capable of working with little or no supervision as well as working as part of a team
- Must provide own toolbox and sufficient hand tools to perform most assigned duties
- Ability to obtain Alaska Commercial Driving License with air brake endorsement
- Ability to obtain Valid DOT medical card
- Ability to obtain Forklift Operation Certification
- Ability to obtain FHWA Inspector Qualification Certification (per 49 CFR § 396.19) and Brake Inspector Qualification Certification (per 49 CFR § 396.25)
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pound objects
- is occasionally required to lift as much as 100 pound objects
- Must possess close, distance, peripheral and depth perception
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus during the normal course of the job
- A post-conditional offer of successfully passing an employment drug test and background investigation are required
