Job Summary

Assist the team with clinical care for a defined group of patients under the supervision of registered healthcare professionals, while safeguarding the welfare and safety of patients, visitors, and staff. Provide personal care including hygiene, washing, dressing, and supporting safe movement, alongside serving meals and maintaining a clean environment with infection control measures. Monitor patient conditions and report changes to senior staff, while recording information in patient administration systems and assisting with administrative duties. This development role offers progression from Band 2 to Band 3 after six months and includes a bespoke two-week induction leading to the Care Certificate. Located at St Mary's Hospital on the Isle of Wight, the position supports a collaborative environment with opportunities for professional growth.

Required Qualifications

  • Maths and English (GCSE or equivalent International) qualifications
  • English and Maths qualification at GCSE/Functional Skills at level 1 (or an internationally recognised equivalent)
  • Completed Care Certificate or ability to complete within 3 months of appointment (Pro rata for part time employee)
  • Complete Knowledge and Behaviour Framework within 6 months of appointment
  • Ability to carry out assigned tasks effectively in a busy environment
  • Understands and complies with HCSW mandatory induction and code of conduct
  • Completion and maintenance of statutory & mandatory learning activities
  • Ability to deal with a range of difficult situations
  • Awareness, understanding and compliance of policies and practices e.g. Escort Policy, Infection Prevention and Control and Health and Safety
  • Can demonstrate knowledge of equipment used within the department to support the registered nurse and ensure that they are compatible and in good working order
  • Can demonstrate a range of core skills to competently undertake personal care for patients and related tasks and activities
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills/literacy/numeracy skills, including basic computer literacy, record keeping and time management
  • Teamwork, taking the initiative, multitasking, adaptability, organisational skills and emotional intelligence
  • Good observation skills and recognition of the importance of reporting
  • Must be available for Isle of Wight based work (St Mary's Hospital - Parkhurst Road, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 5TG)
  • Full time, 37.5 hours per week (will consider part time, minimum 22.5)
  • Permanent contract type

Desired Qualifications

  • Level 2 qualification in a Health-related subject or equivalent in a relevant area gained through experience, on the job training, short courses and completion of work-based competencies
  • Experience in acute hospital setting, community setting or nursing home
