Job Summary
Security Supervisor at UofL Health locations responsible for supervising security staff on assigned shifts, coordinating delivery of services, and acting as liaison between site supervisor, Operations Manager, and security officers. Duties include supervising, coaching, recognizing and disciplining staff within approved empowerment range; patrolling premises; detecting and reporting suspicious or unsafe conditions; responding to incidents (fire, medical emergencies, bomb threats, hazardous materials, evacuations); providing customer service and ensuring compliance with HIPAA privacy/security; maintaining security devices and equipment; escorting patients/visitors as needed; and maintaining documentation through reports and logs. Requires valid driver’s license, HS diploma, and ability to obtain/maintain security licenses; will work at hospital facilities with variable shifts (8h/10h/12h, including nights). Must be able to de-escalate individuals, operate respirators per OSHA, and pass background checks and drug tests; familiarization with healthcare safety and security procedures and emergency response expected.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid driver's license
- Verifiable 5+ years of security or customer service experience
- No criminal charges in the past 7 years; no open/pending charges that would prohibit firearm possession
- Must be able to legally purchase, possess, and carry a handgun; ability to obtain Concealed Carry Deadly Weapons permit
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a guard card/license as required by state/local regulations
- Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the public
- Background check and post-offer/pre-employment drug/alcohol test
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must possess or obtain necessary certifications/licenses related to security and safety per employer requirements
- Experience with documenting through written reports and logs; basic computer skills
- Ability to respond to incidents including medical emergencies, fires, criminal activities, and other emergencies
- Ability to de-escalate situations and maintain calm, professional demeanor in a healthcare setting
- Willingness to work varied shifts including 6a-6p, 6p-6a, 7a-7p, 7p-7a
- Experience in a hospital/healthcare environment preferred
