Job Summary
Coordinate patient appointments for primary care physicians and manage discharges from the 24/7 Emergency Department by scheduling follow-up care. Verify insurance coverage, collect payments, and inform patients of billing policies and pre-authorization requirements. Retain patients in the Cooper Health System by scheduling directly in Centricity Business or calling physicians' offices, while assisting families with referrals to specialists and community resources. Provide support and counseling as appropriate, communicate with multidisciplinary teams and referring providers, and track weekly scheduled services. Float to other ED Registration work areas and IP units as needed.
Required Qualifications
- 0-2 years' experience
- High school diploma
- Ability to work collaboratively with and communicate with multidisciplinary teams on behalf of the patient
- Ability to multi-task in fast-paced environment
- Ability to work any shift, as needed
- Working knowledge of registration process
- Working knowledge of electronic appointment scheduling
- Working knowledge of insurance plans to include referral and preauthorization processes
- Working knowledge of third-party payor reimbursement and revenue cycle
- Working knowledge of EMTALA regulations
- Working knowledge of JCAHO regulations
- Working knowledge of HIPAA regulations
Desired Qualifications
- Minimum Two years of recent registration, scheduling or billing experience working in a medical facility
- Proficiency in patient registration, scheduling, medical insurance pre-certifications, authorizations and referrals
- Epic experience
