Job Summary
Health & Safety Technologist responsibilities include providing health and safety technical support across multiple safety disciplines (Health Physics, Industrial Hygiene, Industrial Safety, Explosives Safety) within LLNL’s Environment, Safety and Health Directorate. You will operate and maintain radiological and industrial hygiene monitoring instruments, analyze data to ensure safety compliance, assist in writing safety procedures and reports, participate in emergency response activities, and develop/maintain Discipline Action Plans for routine surveillances. The role involves training and fieldwork, validating analyses of radiological/industrial hygiene samples, and guiding workers in safe practices while communicating changes to management. The ESH team will include interaction with scientists, engineers, and technical personnel, with potential for advanced level responsibilities and safety policy development at the 571.3 level. A U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance is required, and the position requires an Associate degree in related safety fields or equivalent experience, plus the ability to obtain the Q clearance and to work on-site at LLNL’s Livermore site.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in Occupational Safety or Radiation Protection or equivalent combination of education and extensive related experience
- Ability to obtain/maintain DOE Q-level security clearance (U.S. citizenship)
- Experience operating and maintaining radiological and industrial hygiene sampling and detection equipment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documenting surveys and training
- Ability to work independently and in a team in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work various shifts and support around-the-clock operations
- Ability to wear respiratory protection and work with toxic/radioactive materials
- Physical ability to perform risk tasks (climbing ladders, bending, etc.)
