Job Summary

Partner with plant operations as a subject matter expert on federal, state, and local health and safety regulations. Align corporate objectives with business strategies while maintaining compliance across all Akron campus sites, including occasional support for locations in New Jersey and Texas. Lead continuous improvement initiatives, develop comprehensive training programs covering topics from PPE to confined space entry, and conduct regular walk-through audits. Coach employees on safety accountabilities, present safety updates, and coordinate procurement of safety supplies. Build positive relationships with regulators such as OSHA and BWC to drive injury reduction and environmental performance. Perform duties as assigned by the supervisor while operating within the manufacturing floor and office settings.

Required Qualifications

  • Proficient understanding of OSHA standards and guidelines
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations in an industrial setting, preferably in chemicals
  • Ability to stay current with and apply regulations
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Ability to take direction and to carry out instructions from the manager in an orderly and efficient manner
  • Ability to lead and motivate others that are not direct subordinates
  • Ability to build rapport and trust with all the employees, primarily on the manufacturing floor
  • Ability to lead by example and display a strong work ethic for others to follow
  • Ability to get employees to buy into programs and policies
  • Possess strong organization and implementation skills
  • Capable of proactive approach to identify and eliminate potential problem areas
  • Ability to work independently and in groups and be self-motivated in both settings
  • Ability to manage time in an efficient and effective manner
  • Ability to use respiratory protection as needed

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Occupational Health & Safety or a closely related field is preferred
  • 2 years experience with health and safety in an industrial environment (preferably chemical manufacturing) is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of IATA and RCRA is a plus
