Job Summary

Monitor radiation safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Conduct radiological assessments of laboratory operations, perform employee training, and maintain Health Physics records. Process laboratory wastewater, collect and assay radioactive waste for disposal, and manage sealed source inventory and leak tests. Calculate radiation doses for employees and visitors, and communicate with regulatory agencies and inspectors. Repair and calibrate survey instruments while developing safety program procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • BS degree in Health Physics (or related field) with radiological laboratory experience
  • 2-3 years of experience in Health Physics-related activities
  • Must be able to travel and work in Valencia and Burbank
  • Comprehensive working knowledge/understanding of radiation safety including related laws and regulations
  • Use of Geiger, ion chamber, or other radiation control instruments and meters
  • Analysis of radioactive samples using ion chamber and liquid scintillation equipment
  • Experience with radiation safety surveys and other routine tasks
  • Experience performing radiation dose and effluent calculations, and analyses
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong math and project management skills
  • Able to work independently, self-starter
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs

Desired Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Health Physics or related subject
  • Masters degree with extensive health physics experience
