Job Summary
Optician I assists in organizing the optical dispensary, manages front desk procedures and patient scheduling, guides frame and lens selection, fitting and ordering, and communicates orders to the optical lab. Responsibilities include verifying, dispensing, and repairing spectacles; stocking frames; pre-testing patients with ophthalmic instruments (e.g., auto kerato-refractometers and non-contact tannometers); ordering and stocking trial contact lenses; providing contact lens instruction and education; and covering other locations as needed. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent; paraoptometric experience is preferred. The role involves a sedentary workload with some moving and lifting up to 10 pounds, strong listening and communication skills, privacy/confidentiality, and the ability to prioritize in a busy practice. Location: St Ignace, MI. Hints indicate full-time employment.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Three years of Paraoptometric experience preferred
- Good listening skills
- Must maintain privacy and confidentiality
- Must pass pre-employment drug testing
- Knowledge of spectacle fabrication and ophthalmic optics preferred
- Knowledge of frame adjustment and repair preferred
- Knowledge of contact lenses is preferred
