Job Summary

Support teaching staff by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve appropriate levels of instruction. Provide individual and/or small group instructional support as directed by professional staff, assist substitutes with teacher's sub plans, class lists, attendance, and photocopying, and provide support in the department resource center. Monitor department equipment and supplies, participate in scheduled meetings, and assist teachers in maintaining appropriate classroom behavior or monitoring specific behavior management plans. Accompany students on field trips or to job sites, guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work, and assist in devising strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.

Required Qualifications

  • CPR/first aid certification
  • minimum of 2 years medical experience
  • Associates Degree or equivalent
  • Knowledge of general concepts of child growth and development
  • Knowledge of specific subject area content as required in the job assignment
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instruction
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with students and staff
  • Ability to work with staff, students, parents, and the community
  • Ability to lift up to 10 lbs
