Job Summary
Health Information Specialist position performing review of Insurance policies and Explanation of Benefits, management of medical records for insurance/government entities, and support for claims processing and audits. Responsible for maintaining audit logs, conducting internal audits for quality assurance, and handling medical-records-related communications with patients, families, physicians’ offices, and internal teams. Requires familiarity with CPT/ICD-10, HIPAA, and insurance regulations; DME experience; strong organizational skills; and proficient use of Microsoft Office. Tasks include answering patient/insurance calls, faxing and emailing, and escalating concerns to Revenue Cycle leadership. Must work collaboratively to support revenue cycle, regulatory compliance, and customer service objectives.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of Explanation of Benefits
- Working knowledge of government, regulatory billing and compliance regulations/policies for Medicare & Medicaid
- Working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes, HCFA 1500, UB04 claim forms, HIPAA, billing and insurance regulations, medical terminology, insurance benefits
- Knowledge of policies and procedures to accurately answer questions from internal and external customers
- Experience: Minimum of 2 Years in DME experience required
- 3-5 Years in DME or medical billing experience preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Effective/professional communication skills (written and oral)
