Job Summary
The Health Information Specialist is responsible for prepping, scanning, and indexing patient records, analyzing and reporting record completion, releasing patient health information, and providing department customer service to physicians, quality/risk, other internal departments, and external requesters. The role must safeguard patient privacy by ensuring only authorized individuals access the information and that all releases comply with the request, authorization, company policy, and HIPAA regulations. The position emphasizes accurate handling of medical records, adherence to privacy regulations, and effective communication across clinical and administrative teams.
Required Qualifications
- RHIA OR RHIT certification required in specific states (Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Colorado)
- One year experience in a hospital medical records department
- Strong computer experience
