Health Information Specialist I

Job Summary

Receive and process requests for patient health information by answering inbound/outbound calls and assisting with patient walk-ins. Document information in multiple platforms using two monitors while creating digital images of paperwork for electronic storage. Safeguard patient records and ensure compliance with HIPAA standards by maintaining confidentiality and adhering to medical privacy regulations. Assemble medical records in standard order, manage patient charts, and handle administrative duties such as faxes, mail, and data entry. Respond to requests from patients, insurance companies, and attorneys, transmitting records appropriately within the facility or externally. Meet productivity expectations in a high-volume production environment while working Monday-Friday 8:00AM-4:30 PM EST in Hendersonville, NC.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to commute between locations as needed
  • Able to work overtime during peak seasons when required
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Comfortable utilizing phones, fax machine, printers, and other general office equipment on a regular basis
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills in the English language
  • Detail and quality oriented as it relates to accurate and compliant information for medical records
  • Strong data entry skills
  • Must be able to work with minimum supervision responding to changing priorities and role needs
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks
  • Able to respond to requests in a fast-paced environment
  • Must meet productivity expectations as outlined at specific site

  • Previous production/metric-based work experience
