Job Summary
Oversee daily operations of the health records function at Cornell Health, supervising staff and ensuring the integrity of both electronic and paper patient records. Develop, implement, and maintain policies governing health information management to ensure full adherence to federal, state, and university regulations, including HIPAA and accreditation standards. Monitor and audit health information systems to safeguard data privacy and security, while leading responses to audits, legal requests, and health records incidents. Optimize Electronic Health Record workflows by collaborating with technical teams to reduce documentation errors and support system enhancements. Train and mentor staff, manage hiring and performance reviews, and serve as a subject matter expert on documentation standards and data governance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- current certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in health information management
- Demonstrated expertise in healthcare-related legal and regulatory mandates and accrediting standards
- Proficiency with healthcare-related information systems and software applications, particularly in document management and transmission
- Knowledge of and ability to apply principles of Health Information Management, project management and change management
- Demonstrated skill in understanding cultural differences
Desired Qualifications
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience with a demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team
- Experience supporting a health system/medical center or integrated multi-disciplinary practice (Primary Care/CAPS/PT/SUD (substance use disorder))
- Experience with Joint Commission or AAAHC accreditation process
