Health Information Management Specialist

Job Summary
Direct the maintenance of all patients' medical records in accordance with internal policies, state, and federal regulations. Ensure the privacy of agency medical records by applying HIPAA Privacy and Security Rule standards, and oversee compliance with applicable safeguards. Respond to internal and external requests for protected health information, including those from patients, attorneys, and government agencies, while maintaining organized logs of all activities. Oversee the processing of subpoenas, verify billing and documentation guidelines, and train personnel on daily medical records operations. Manage uploads to OCHIN, process Right Fax correspondence, and handle Home Health Authorizations and leave requests. Answer employee inquiries regarding records management and ensure timely completion of all reports.

- Sensitivity to, interest in and competence in cultural differences, HIV/AIDS, minority health, sexual practices, and a demonstrated competence in working with persons of color, and gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgendered community
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications and other computer applications
- Reliable transportation
- Valid Ohio driver's license
- Associate's degree from an approved program for Health Information Management, Business or related field OR two years of Medical Records experience
- Bachelor's degree
- Current credentials as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) and/or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or equivalent certification around medical records management
- Experience in a community based health care setting
- Working knowledge of HIPAA's Privacy Rule and Security Rule
- Practical knowledge of medical terminology and record keeping
- Knowledge and experience with electronic health record software, specifically Epic
- Past audit experience
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Desired Qualifications
- Two years of Medical Records experience
- Bachelor's degree
- Current credentials as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) and/or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or equivalent certification around medical records management
- Experience in a community based health care setting
- Working knowledge of HIPAA's Privacy Rule and Security Rule
- Practical knowledge of medical terminology and record keeping
- Knowledge and experience with electronic health record software, specifically Epic
- Past audit experience
