Job Summary
Provide direct patient care under the guidance of a Registered Nurse, including care and comfort, vital signs, personal hygiene, mobility, and unit-based specialty duties. Act as a liaison to report changes or concerns to the nursing team while delivering high-level customer service to patients, families, and visitors. Maintain accurate, precise, and timely documentation for patient care using professional communication skills. Perform activities of daily living, feeding, hydration, bowel and bladder elimination, and ambulation. Apply infection prevention precautions and understand patient safety standards such as falls and skin breakdown prevention. Collect patient data including intake/output and condition changes. Obtain Basic Life Support certification and complete required nursing aide training or state testing prior to direct patient care.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to clearly communicate to other members of the healthcare team
- Ability to understand and follow directions of healthcare team
- Knowledge of patient and healthcare safety standards and regulations (i.e. falls, skin breakdown, suicide prevention, environment of care)
- Infection prevention and transmission based precautions
- Understanding of clerical duties and office based technology
- Team dynamics
- Patient data collection and documentation (i.e. vital signs, intake/output, change in patient condition)
- Basic hygiene and activities of daily living care
- Feeding, hydration, and nutrition
- Bowel and bladder elimination
- Ambulation and patient mobility
- Use of clinical technology
- Accountability for completion of assigned tasks
- Escalation of concerns via chain of command
- Successful completion of nursing aide training program OR, Successful passing of STNA State Tested Nurse Aide (required if OH LTC), OR CNA Certified Nurse Aide, OR Nurses Aide state testing or completed a nursing program that had one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation, OR 1 year of relevant experience in a clinical setting
- BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care)
Desired Qualifications
- Recent experience in acute care, physician's office, home health/hospice, or long term care facility, with a preference for the setting in which they are applying (preferred)
