Job Summary
Health Care Aide provides personal care and performs selected tasks under supervision while adhering to regulatory standards and Extendicare's policies. Responsibilities include following the plan of care, assisting with activities of daily living, transfers and mobility, observing and reporting changes in residents’ condition, escalating emergencies, planning and preparing nutritious meals, maintaining a safe and clean environment, supporting residents’ cognitive, social, emotional and psychological well-being, safeguarding confidentiality, and collaborating with other agencies involved in resident care. Requires current CLHA registration, Health Care Aide training, experience with seniors, strong communication and organizational skills, and a willingness to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check; CPR/BLS and First Aid recommended. Final compensation is based on experience with a competitive benefits package and opportunities for growth. Required Qualifications
- Current registration with the College of Health Care Aides (CLHA)
- Graduate of Health Care Aide program (or provincial equivalent certificate program with minimum 500 hours in Ontario & Alberta of theory & practicum)
- Experience working with seniors in the community health services setting
- Must possess strong written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
- Strong interpersonal and customer focus skills
- Must have demonstrated sound skills and knowledge of providing personal care duties
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support and First Aid certification recommended
- Ability to perform tasks that are necessary for the position, e.g. lifting/transferring clients
- Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one
