Job Summary
Health Care Aide (HCA) part-time role providing resident-focused basic care under supervision of a Licensed Practical Nurse. Responsibilities include observing residents during activities such as bathing, dressing, and moving, reporting changes in condition to the Staff Nurse, contributing to the Nursing Care Plan, collaborating with the care team to address residents’ needs holistically, and assisting residents with moving about the community. Requires completion of a Health Care Aide program (or provincial equivalent with ≥500 hours theory/practicum), experience with seniors in community health settings, and strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills. Current BCLS/First Aid recommended; must obtain or provide Vulnerable Sector Check if required.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of Health Care Aide program (or provincial equivalent certificate program with minimum 500 hours of theory & practicum)
- Experience working with seniors in the community health services setting
- Must possess strong written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
- Strong interpersonal and customer focus skills
- Must have demonstrated sound skills and knowledge of providing personal care duties
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support and First Aid certification recommended
- Ability to perform tasks that are necessary for the position, e.g. lifting/transferring clients
- Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one
