Job Summary
Health Care Aide (HCA) provides direct client/patient/resident care and assists with activities of daily living in community homes, health care centers, or hospitals. Under supervision, the HCA supports independence and delivers care following established standards, policies, and procedures. Responsibilities may vary by setting. Key duties include assisting clients with daily living, maintaining safety and comfort, and communicating effectively with clients, families, and teammates. Qualifications include completion of a recognized HCA course, Manitoba Grade 10 education, valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license (or willingness to travel year-round), and Basic Cardiac Life Support training where required. The role requires adaptability to shift patterns (days, evenings, weekends), potential travel between client homes, and compliance with applicable checks (Criminal Records, Vulnerable Sector, Child/Adult Abuse Registry). The work arrangement is in-person, with potential for diverse settings and collaboration within the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority’s community health services. The successful candidate will participate in assessments and may be asked to complete skills assessments during interviews; accommodations are available during the assessment process as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum Grade 10 education (Manitoba standards)
- Successful completion of a recognized Health Care Aide course
- Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle or willingness to travel year-round
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Training and/or maintenance of competence may be required in some settings
- Ability to provide safe, effective personal care with respect for privacy and dignity
- Effective communication with clients, families, and co-workers (verbal and written)
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload; work independently or in a team
- Basic computer skills (MS Word and Outlook); experience with electronic charting systems may be preferred
- Flexibility to work various shifts (days, evenings, weekends); travel between client homes may be required
- Awareness of Indigenous customs and openness to French language requirements may be preferred
- Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check may be required
