Job Summary
Health Care Aide (HCA) for Home Care needs at WRHA, working in community/home care, health care centers, and hospitals to support clients with activities of daily living and promote independence. Responsibilities include direct client/patient/resident care, following established standards of care, policies and procedures, and adapting to the needs of clients across different settings. The role requires safe, respectful personal care, effective communication with clients and teams, ability to organize workload, and willingness to travel to client homes. Must have completed a Health Care Aide program, hold a Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license or reliable transportation, and be able to meet a range of background checks. Shift patterns include days, evenings, and weekends; position is in-person with 0.80 FTE (part-time). The role emphasizes teamwork, critical thinking, and continuous professional development; familiarity with Indigenous customs and potential French language requirements are preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum Grade 10 education (Manitoba standards)
- Successful completion of a recognized Health Care Aide course
- Valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle or willingness to travel year-round
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Training and/or maintenance of competence
- Ability to provide safe, effective personal care and maintain client dignity, privacy, and respect
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) in English; ability to speak/read/write French may be required
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team; strong organization and prioritization skills
- Experience with activities of daily living (ADL) and assisting clients with independence goals
- Knowledge of Indigenous customs, traditions and values preferred
- Experience with electronic charting systems may be preferred
- Ability to travel to clients' homes and work shift patterns including days, evenings, weekends
- Criminal records checks and child/adult abuse registry checks required
