Job Summary
Health Care Aide (HCA) for the Home Care Program with Winnipeg Regional Health Authority in the WRHA Community Health Services - Homecare. The role supports clients in various settings (clients’ homes, health care centers, hospitals) by assisting with activities of daily living and providing direct client care to promote independence within established standards. Requires completion of a recognized HCA course, minimum Grade 10 education, Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license or access to a reliable vehicle, and Basic Cardiac Life Support training where required. Involves shift work (days/evenings/weekends) and in-person work; duties include safe personal care, effective communication, and ability to manage multiple tasks; familiarity with electronic charting and MS Word/Outlook is helpful. Candidates with knowledge of Indigenous customs and the French language may be preferred; training and checks (criminal record, vulnerable/Adult Abuse registry) are part of the onboarding process.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum Grade 10 education, Manitoba standards, required.
- Successful completion of a recognized Health Care Aide course required.
- Valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, and/or willingness to travel year-round.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Training and/or maintenance of competence may be required in some settings.
- Ability to provide safe, effective personal care with respect for client privacy and dignity.
- Effective communication with clients/families/co-workers, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team; strong organization and prioritization.
- Basic computer skills: MS Word and Outlook; experience with electronic charting systems may be preferred.
- May require French language ability; knowledge of Indigenous customs and values is preferred.
- May encounter physical demands; travel between client homes may be required.
