Job Summary
Health Care Aide (HCA) works under the supervision of a Licensed Practical Nurse to provide resident-focused basic care and services. Responsibilities include observing residents for changes in condition during bathing, dressing, and transfers; reporting changes to the Staff Nurse; participating in the Nursing Care Plan by sharing observations; collaborating with the care team to address residents’ individual needs; assisting and accompanying residents in mobility and community activities; and ensuring safe care. Required skills include strong written and oral communication, organizational and time-management abilities, and a focus on interpersonal and customer service. Training and certification considerations include a Health Care Aide program (provincial certificate with theory and practicum hours), Basic Cardiac Life Support and First Aid (recommended), and a current Vulnerable Sector Check or willingness to obtain one.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of Health Care Aide program (or provincial equivalent certificate program with minimum 500 hours of theory & practicum)
- Experience working with seniors in the community health services setting
- Must possess strong written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
- Strong interpersonal and customer focus skills
- Must have demonstrated sound skills and knowledge of providing personal care duties
- Must provide a complete and current Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support and First Aid certification recommended
