Job Summary
Health Assistant/LVN role supporting the Special Education program under the supervision of a credentialed school nurse. Responsible for assisting in nursing/health care and education of students with physical/mental impairments; implementing immunization programs, infection control, and health-related services; maintaining student health records; assisting with 504/IEP processes; and performing specialized health care procedures (e.g., ventilator care, catheterization, gastrostomy tube feedings, ostomy care, tracheostomy care, suctioning). Includes clerical duties, transportation support, and collaboration with teachers, parents, and outside agencies. Requires LVN license, CPR, valid driver’s license, and at least one year of LVN experience with pediatric/disabled populations. All duties performed in accordance with district policies and confidentiality requirements.
Required Qualifications
- California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) registration
- CPR certification
- pass pre-placement physical
- drug/alcohol screening
- 12th grade completion or equivalent
- one year LVN experience
- experience with children with disabilities, pediatrics in home health, hospital, clinic, or pediatric office
- valid California driver's license
- proof of liability insurance
- furnish own transportation as required to fulfill job duties
- under direction of credentialed nurse, assist in health care and education of students
- maintain health records and confidentiality of student records
- ability to assist in determining extent of illness or injury and coordinate care
- knowledge of bloodborne/communicable disease prevention and safety procedures
- participate in 504 and IEP meetings
- ability to work with students, staff, parents, and community agencies
