Healing to Advocacy Program Manager

Job Summary

Manage Essie's Healing to Advocacy Organizing Program by directing 1-2 staff members and overseeing day-to-day operations. Create logistics plans to reduce participation barriers, co-design the EssieKids! childcare program, and manage contractors including guest trainers. Coordinate member recruitment strategies involving thousands of nominations and fill dozens of statewide cohorts. Recruit and support member facilitators, launch cohorts in 15-20 locations, and coordinate graduation events welcoming participants into the advocacy body. Facilitate multi-day training retreats, respond to participant needs, and track leadership development outcomes for the Directors' Team. Ensure the program meets organizational goals through collaborative evaluation systems and proactive improvements. This full-time, exempt role reports to the Associate Director of Strategy & Organizational Impact and is based in Los Angeles or Oakland, California.

Required Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in complex program implementation
  • experience in community organizing or direct services contexts
  • Detail-oriented project manager with experience managing multiple, complex projects at once
  • Understands and demonstrates knowledge of best practices in recruitment, retention, and Black feminist culture-setting
  • Excellent prioritization skills
  • Advanced experience in facilitating retreats, workshops, and/or political education trainings
  • Experience supervising people in a way that acknowledges differentials in privilege and power, recognizes their gifts, encourages their confidence, supports their growth, and holds them accountable to standards and achieving collective goals
  • Effective writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
  • Track record as a collaborative leader
