Job Summary

Develop and articulate a vision for the athletics program that embraces character development while recruiting student athletes for participation. Conduct practices focusing on proper technique and mechanics, then organize, supervise, and evaluate practice sessions. Attend and supervise athletes at games to execute game strategy, teaching and demonstrating appropriate sportsmanship with athletes, parents, and the school community. Maintain and inventory uniforms and equipment while adhering to WIAA, league, district, and building rules and policies. Complete required district and WIAA trainings around sport-specific rules and safety. This role supports the 2026-2027 school year under the direction of the building Athletic Director, Principal, and district Athletic Director. Candidates must possess current knowledge of the sport, recent coaching experience with K-12 athletes, and a valid First Aid and CPR card.

Required Qualifications

  • Flexibility in working hours
  • Knowledge of the sport in which the candidate is making application or currently employed in a Certificated, Classified, or hourly Coach position with Vancouver Public Schools
  • Current First Aid and CPR card, or ability to obtain prior to the established start date
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience which demonstrates strong organizational skills
  • Experience which demonstrates strong leadership skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively with students and parents who are culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse
  • Ability to lift and move moderately sized objects up to 50 pounds

Desired Qualifications

  • Recent coaching experience, with K-12 athletes preferred
