Job Summary
Head Swim Team Coach at the North Royalton YMCA oversees the preparation, planning, and operation of swim team practices at the assigned branch, coordinates with another branch for competitive meets, and recruits volunteers. Responsibilities include leading practices, ensuring swimmer safety, planning schedules and achievement guidelines, coordinating with fellow Head Swim Team Coaches and Aquatics Directors for meets, communicating information to parents and participants, organizing branch events, maintaining attendance and progress records, representing the YMCA at meets, and developing volunteers and parent groups. Qualifications emphasize 18+ age, strong communication skills, required Swim Experience, Lifeguard certification, YMCA coaching certifications after hire, CPR/First Aid within 30 days, and willingness to obtain additional USA Swimming instructor certifications within 30 days; prior coaching experience and familiarity with Team & Meet Manager Software are preferred. The role requires knowledge of swim techniques, anatomy/physiology, child development, and a commitment to YMCA values and safeguarding children.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Excellent verbal and written communication and human relations skills
- Swim Experience is required
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is required or will be provided after hire
- YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving certification required after hire
- CPR and First Aid certification and Safety training within 30 days of hire
- USA swim instructor certifications (Principles of Competitive Swimming & Diving) completion within 30 days of hire
- USA Swimming instructor certifications (Coaching 101 & 201) completion within 30 days of hire
- Prior coaching experience preferred
- Experience with Team & Meet Manager Software
- Knowledge of rules and regulations of the sport
- Demonstrated swim techniques and strokes knowledge
- Background in anatomy, exercise physiology, kinesiology, and child development
- Commitment to YMCA mission and values
- Ability to work with diverse groups
- Willingness to be mandated reporter for child abuse/neglect
- Desire to uphold child protection processes
