Job Summary

Conduct daily educational activities in the Head Start environment to promote social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development relative to the Creative Curriculum and Licensing guidelines. Develop individual goals for children, provide ongoing assessments, and facilitate transitions into kindergarten while encouraging parental involvement. Adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of diverse populations, including special needs and gifted children. Maintain a valid Virginia Driver's License and current auto insurance. Present current TB/Physical documentation within 10 working days for the test and 30 days for the physical. Employment is conditional pending immediate enrollment in the Child Care Division Criminal History Registry.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of child development, family dynamics, and the needs of children
  • Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or bachelor's in a related field that includes classes focusing on early childhood education/development
  • Associate degree in early childhood education (on the condition the employee is already enrolled or enrolls in a bachelor's degree (ECE) program)
  • Two years' experience in preschool classroom
  • Ability to adapt curriculum to meet the needs of all children, including special needs, gifted, and culturally diverse populations
  • Ability to apply early childhood development theory in daily classroom activities, and adapt to the individual needs of children
  • Excellent communication skills, especially good listening and writing skills
  • Valid Virginia Driver's License
  • Proof of current auto insurance
  • Immediate enrollment in Child Care Division - Criminal History Registry
  • Current TB test
  • Physical examination

Desired Qualifications

  • Prefer two years' experience in preschool classroom with ability to adapt curriculum to meet the needs of all children, including special needs, gifted, and culturally diverse populations
