Job Summary
Assist the teacher in providing a safe, supervised educational setting for children across the classroom, outdoor play area, and during field trips. Implement ongoing early literacy activities, develop lesson plans reflecting cultural influences, and observe children to record behaviors and track progress toward individual goals. Supervise preschoolers at all times, respond to emergency situations, and provide first aid or CPR as needed. Maintain accurate written records, including assessments and transition documentation, while participating in team meetings and conducting home visits to support families. Prepare classroom materials, adapt curriculum to meet individual needs, and perform general maintenance and sanitization duties. This 11- to 12-month day shift role is supervised by Education Specialists and Teachers.
Required Qualifications
- At least a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential
- Enrolled in a program leading to an associate or baccalaureate degree
- Enrolled in a child development associate credential program to be completed within two years
- Certificate/transcripts to validate ECE coursework or related classes
- Valid Virginia Driver's License
- Proof of current auto insurance
- Immediate enrollment in Child Care Division - Criminal History Registry
- Current TB test
- Physical examination
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated classroom ability, typically one-year full-time preschool classroom experience or equivalent
- Knowledge of typical behaviors/expectations of three and four year old children usually gained through a minimum of one-year of relevant experience
- Excellent communication skills, especially good listening and writing skills
