Job Summary
Assist the Head Start Teacher with daily classroom activities, lesson planning, and the physical, emotional, and nutritional development of children in a safe environment. Support special needs children during mealtimes, playgrounds, and field trips while ensuring no child is ever left unattended. Manage emergency supplies, maintain communication systems, and relay messages between staff and parents as the program's primary contact. Perform teaching tasks per curriculum standards, conduct home visits and screenings, and assist with required documentation. Report accidents immediately and fulfill mandated reporter duties for child abuse and neglect.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Pre-School Child Development Associate (CDA) credential
- Knowledge of program curriculum
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice
- Knowledge of related program performance standards
- Knowledge of basic child development
- Knowledge of child care and guidance
- Good verbal communication skills
- Visual ability to observe children
- Ability to fulfill responsibilities under pressure
- Emotional maturity
- Willingness to cooperate with the standards of the program
- Respect for children and adults
- Flexibility
- Patience
- Good personal hygiene
- Physical and mental health which does not interfere with responsibilities
- Must be able to lift 55 pounds

- Must obtain initial medical exam and TB assessment within 30 days of employment
- Must complete a medical exam and TB assessment every five years following initial employment
- Must pass background screen
- Must pass child abuse/neglect screen
- Must pass drug screen
- Must be subject to random drug testing
- Must understand responsibility of being a mandated reporter for Child Abuse and Neglect
- Must read and understand Child Abuse and Neglect Policy
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
